“Jesus answered... “It takes more than bread to stay alive. It takes a steady stream of words from God’s mouth.”” Matthew 4:4
If I could beg on my knees with loud cries and clanging drums and passionate words to get you to do one thing... it would not be applying oils or eating good food or go to counseling....
Read. The. Word.
Second, I would ask you to give sweet cornbread in a cold glass of milk a try! Talk about nourishment for the soul!
“We humans keep brainstorming options and plans, but GOD ’s purpose prevails.” Proverbs 19:21
^^sent that to several friends this morning as it bopped me on the head yesterday and have been mulling it over “Lord, when do I do this? Of course I trust you always!”
When I drive, wake up, go to sleep... always I’m “daydreaming” aka brainstorming different endings and plans to a destination unknown.
God’s. Purpose. Prevails.
If I trust that, my focus would be on heavenly things. We have clear instruction on what to think about! And nope, it’s not a new trending “mindset practice” or meditation mantra. Straight from God’s Word:
“And now, dear brothers and sisters, one final thing. Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise.” Philippians 4:8 NLT
So how do you know what God’s purpose is? How do you quit brainstorming your own ways?
His purpose for us is to give Him glory. That’s it! No 5 year plan needed, one day at a time… give Him glory in all things!
Here are my current fears/worries/greatest brainstorming things… I’m sharing to normalize maybe what you too have running through your mind?
•finances
•my kids’ happiness
•my kids’ future
•my skin breaking out and what it says about my physical health
• gossip about me
• am I doing too much?
• am I doing enough?
^^common thread… “I, me…” there is no room for worry in God’s purpose. Trusting that He is enough to guide me daily on what He wants from my life (intimacy with Him through the Word brings this assurance!).
I love you, friend. But there’s a God who loves you more and wants you cuddled up close. Bring your cornbread and milk in a cup and expect Him to meet you through His Word. No fancy Bible needed or devotional. Just an open heart for receiving, and the living Word will do the rest.
